The province Guangxi in southern China is famous for its spectacular karst landscape. Characteristic cone-shaped hills surrounded by rice fields can be found in the popular tourist destinations of Guilin and Yangshuo and are commonly depicted on the covers of guide books. Nevertheless, the province also includes several exceptional birding destinations. In particular, Nonggang with its rural landscape became famous among birders for the endemic and only recently discovered Nonggang Babbler, but still retains a quiet atmosphere without many tourists. A visit to this hotspot should cover around 3 days, but can be connected to several nearby sites.
Nonggang is characterized by a unique landscape of cone-shaped hills in-between rural farmland. Habitats include the open shrubby landscape as well as undisturbed forests. Locals have developed a number of bird hides allowing the observation of a large number of characteristic species. One highlight is the endemic Nonggang Babbler, which was only described as a new species in 2008.

Chongzuo Ecological Park is a small nature reserve protecting a population of White-headed Langur. This primate is endemic to Guangxi and considered critically endangered due to its restricted range. There are only a few hundred individuals left in the wild. The park is characterized by a beautiful karst landscape, but has only limited birdwatching potential with common species, including a few sunbirds and flowerpeckers. However, a visit can be combined with a stay at nearby Nonggang.

Napo is another location along the border between Guangxi and Vietnam, which became a hot spot for birdwatchers. It can be combined with a visit at Nonggang and offers a chance to see species such as the Spectacled Barwing and Brown-crowned Scimitar-Babbler among others.
